"It was an impressive display and excellent value, not to mention brilliant for being local and accessible without the need to drive." - an Ongar family.
A professional display by Starburst plus family entertainment, mulled wine, beer, hot food, hot & cold drinks, glowsticks at great prices. A wonderful family occasion, kindly supported in 2007, 2008 and 2009 by John Sear Estate Agents.

The mulled wine, glowsticks and "disco" have proved particularly popular and we'll be doing these this year too. The organisers are Ongar Round Table in association with Chipping Ongar Primary School.

A bit of history
The tradition of 'Bonfire Night' began in 1605, immediately after the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament had failed. Londoners who learned that King James I has been saved lit celebration bonfires around the capital. The following year it became an official celebration and over the years the nature of the event became more elaborate and started to include burning "Guy"s and fireworks. After the Civil War, most celebrations were banned - except of course Bonfire Night. It has been a truly British occasion ever since.
