Rock Wall Climbing 01-04-2010
At the indoor climbing wall at Beaumont Leys Leisure Centre we were instructed in the gentlemanly art of rock climbing. Not a very challenging experience, at least for the first climb, while were all fired-up, feeling fit, could use any hand or foot-hold we wanted and could still feel our arms! Our Chairman David is an avid climber so we were all game for the challenge from David of "only use the features, not the holds". By the end of this we were feeling very challenged and ready for a cold beer and a curry! Another great experience.

SCUBA Experience 21-01-2010
Tired of flapping around on dry land like a load of beached Whales, we decided to try our hands at an evening of experiencing the thrill of flapping around under water instead. Hosted at Aylestone Leisure Centre in Leicester by Leicester Underwater Exploration Club, to whom we offer our sincere thanks for the tremendous effort expended for us, after a brief tutorial on the side of the pool, we bravely donned our equipment, kissed goodbye to our loved ones and sank like stones to the bottom of the deep end. After a while though we all seemed to find our feet, or our flippers, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time learning to "fly underwater". A fantastic experience if you've never tried it. Why not join Round Table and give it a go?

Above, David opts for the "diving in fog" experience day

Above centre, Two of our members can hardly contain their embarrassment, while the instructor can't believe her luck.

Family Picnic 30-08-2009
LRT held a family picnic, with camping overnight for those daft enough. Loads of fun was had by all. The kids loved the freedom and independence, whilst the adults partook of a few beers! A first class BBQ fed us all, and the bacon butties in the morning were a real treat. We hope to have a similar event next year!

Paul had never before experienced such pain; Nobody had ever told hime that the "pretty fairies" were dangerous. Tim has always had trouble with his thumbs.

Archery, Bull-In-The-Hollow Farm, Loughborough 02-07-2009

Another glorious evening in the Summer sun, with good friends and with the prospect of a cold beer and a delicious BBQ later on, whilst pitting our skills against the targets. Later, when the stationary targets bacame "too girly", a spontaneous game of "down-the-squealing-chairman" seemed like a good bloke game!

Paul had never done this kind of thing before and unfortunately most of his "darts", as he called them, fell short in a conveniently positioned pint of beer. Blaming the wind was quickly ruled out, as we knew Paul hadn't had a curry that evening!

White Water Rafting at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham 18-06-2009
"Several hours of messing around on the water", it was decribed to us as by our programme manager, Tim Hunt, and we all thought this meant "rowing boats with a leisurely cruise and a stop at a riverside pub for refreshment"......... and then we all fell out of the boat because half of us couldn't remember left from right, and the other half of us couldn't hear the guide shout STOP STOP; In particular our over-enthusiastic Chairman, who, paddling like his life depended on it, nearly killed us all! Great fun!
Has anyone seen Gareth since last night by the way?

A motley crew if ever we saw one!

We were beginning to realise why the fat bloke should sit at the back......

Paddling upstream seemed like a good idea......... at the time anyway.

Derby Merlin Regatta
An innocent bystander cruely commentated that Rich showed perfect concentration ...whilst trying to keep his beer down after the first race. The teams unbalanced energy around the boat that meant we actually rowed twice as far as everyone else as we tacked from bank to bank never really finding that straight line.
There was some amends in the tug of war with a text-book win against Leicester, see below and watch for Paul having his own personal battle.
After posting one of the fastest times of the day, Loughborough XRT2B were in it to lose it but failed to do that by making it through to the finals despite calls from the Chairman to paddle backwards so he could get home....the video sums the casual nature of their win ...absolute genius. In the final, they changed their proven winning tactic and decided to try to win, and came third. The only win was on the raffle with Rob winning a mountain bike. We left the "Milking the Goat" competition to the locals...which Will Ingleby proudly won.
