Father's Day Cricket match - Dads & lads

We met on a sunny afternoon at Crathorn Cricket Club ...nothing better than an English Summer's Day and the sound of leather on willow...
We started with a kids & Dad's game then broke for light refreshments.
After, we warmed up with a game of rounders before another game of Twenty20 cricket!
Great day was had by all!  Roll on the next match!

Yarm Gala Boat Race

Expectations were high as we were the winners of last year's race. A great crowd and the sunny weather inspired us to top performance in our qualifying race. Unfortunately, we only came second! We watched the remainder of the race from the Blue Bell's garden, with a good internal soak . . .

EuroMeeting 2009

Arrived on Friday tea time having flown form Manchester to Bremen.
Dave and Chris drove from Rotterdam having gone across on the ferry from Hull.
Good to see everyone from around Europe after hosting them last year in England.
England 4, Sweden 6, France 10 and Holland 16.

The usual House Parties on the Friday night with BBQ, beer, schnapps and Russian vodka!

Saturday saw us travel to Hamburg on the light railway and to the Central Lake with a river cruise into the posh end of the City - much better than the previous trip around the port area, with the sun blazing and not a cloud in the sky.

After a light lunch of soup and bun with beer – we had the choice of trips – sightseeing around Hamburg, shopping in Hamburg or visiting the Reiperbahn!
Yes, you guessed it – we went … shopping!

Later, the usual highlight of the trip – the Movie Star Party at the Radison Hotel.
It was a fantastic night with all Tablers in ‘Movie’ Fancy Dress and some 41 Club in Oscar Night Black tie.
I think they borrowed a few ideas from us as they had a stretch limo parked alongside the red carpet, a Superman Statue and
a real TV crew filming the whole night!
There were so many highlights of the night for us including ; -
Dancing with a German ‘Marilyn Monroe’….
Too much to eat and drink and so many laughs my face hurt ….
And our Act as the Flintstones which brought the house down!
( the dancing lessons are starting to pay off! ).
We left about 3.00am having turned down the German curried sausage!
We said our goodbyes on the night as Deb and I were up at 7.00am for an early
flight home. Dave and Chris drove home Sunday afternoon for the ferry overnight ( they almost missed it even though Dave was travelling at Mach 4 on the Autobahn!).

Well worth the trip and expense for another cracking International Meeting!

Special thanks to Dave & Chris Snowden for flying the flag with us – and although we were only four…. we did Stokesley RT proud!

The Dutch theme for next year is ‘The Olympics’, and they want to visit all Tables around Europe to invite us in person!
So, I will be looking for ideas for their visit and asking for volunteers to
host a Dutchman!

Yours,
Chairman Ged

Dear Tablers & 41 Lite,

As Star Trek is back in the cinema - and Captain Kirk has started another Captain's log ....
I thought I would keep you all updated through my year with the Chairman's Blog!

I was very proud on handover night to receive the best 1970's medallion Ive ever seen - the Stokesley & Distrcit Round Table - Chairman's Chain!
It's already on e-bay for a tenner!

As I said on the night I would like to carry on the fine traditions of our Table and add a few twists of my own.

'Sport & Social' are my key words for the coming year - and I hope new members will follow from that lead.

First Event ....
Limehouse Lizzy Night
Together with some old farts from 41 Club, I attned the Limehouse lIzzy night at Marton Country Club.
The group are a tribute act to Thin Lizzy and were a class act!
Good night was had by all although I did cry off early 'cause it was a bit too loud for me!
The true - old rockers of Dunko, Dave Snowden and Martin Ingledew were there and head banged the night away!

Good start to the year - roll on Euromeeting in Germany!

Remember - spread the word on the BBQ - 18/07/09 - tickets out soon!

Dust off your bikes as we'll be riding soon!

Cheers,
Chairman Ged
